Hello,

My hippo tang developed this spot on his head at around day 20 in qt. He still is in qt and we are around 50 days now. He has been through several rounds of prazipro, paraguard, and a short time in cupermine. Still no change. He shows no signs of distress and eats very well. Anyone know what the heck this is? Sorry, not a great picture. Should I keep him in qt or move him to the DT?
Thank you.

Hard to tell. That is what I was thinking since it is not getting any worse. Not sure of what medication to try next.

Melafix may provide some soothing, perhaps a mild antiseptic ...

If it's not a scrape or other injury, what you're seeing may be a virus called Lymphocystis. It tends to present as whitish "cauliflower-like" growths, and can show up just about anywhere on the fish. There's no known cure - but in most cases, it's about as worrisome as a cold-sore in humans. Good, broad-based nutrition and excellent water quality will go a long way toward getting and keeping it under control (invisible).

Thank you Bruce!! So is it safe to move him to the main display or will it spread to my other fish?

Assuming there are no other ailments, and it is not an infection, yes. An infection wouldn’t likely spread to other fish but wouldn’t be treatable effectively in then display.

I’m torn between this being an infection from a fun injury or lymph — can you supply another photo or two?

This is the only other picture I could get of him. He freaks out when he sees the camera :-)
