hippo tang thoughts?

Hello,
I introduced a baby hippo tang to my tank today which has lots of happy zoanthids, xenia, and plenty of live rock.
I use beach sand when cycling my tank. When I first acclimated the fish it was fine, swam and started eating off of a piece of rock that I have in the tank, even ate sea monkeys. She was shying away in a corner so I placed a small live rock near the baby tang and it is now on its side, trying to hide under the rock. ( its a small piece of live rock ).. but the tang hasn't moved for a little over an hour, is definitely still alive, is this normal behavior for a hippo tang when first being introduced to a new tank?

Welcome to R2R. Sounds a like normal blue tang, mine does the same weird stuff. Keep us updated.

My cat used to bring mice, rabbits and squirrels to the door step and would leave it there til I saw it then it would devour it as if it was telling me that she was earning her keep or something . First time I saw that, although she would keep herself clean , I never let her lick my face after that .yah he’s bringing you gifts just go with that lol !!! . That’s why I like dogs now :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Yes he usually eats most of the lizard and leaves me a bit but this was unfortunately a full grown curly tail.. but I accepted his offering and bought him his fav TUNA!

So basically you’ve trained him for this behavior. What does he have to do for a Klondike bar ? lol:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

It's amazing I've never really been a cat person..
Then I adopted him 4 or 5 years ago and raised him from a kitten with my red nose pitty sammy. (total sweetheart) They even shared the same bed!
Anyway.. now my cat acts oddly more like a dog!
He has now learned how to open doors!, literally whines when he wants something, or is telling me something..
sleeps at the foot of the bed every night I could go on about how weirdly he acts more like a dog..
Other then the lizard habit.. I couldn't keep him out of my leopard geckos!
Update on baby hippo tang! She has adapted well and loves all of the rock I have for her to explore.
she definitely is bashful! Pondering cute names for personality

I’ve got a small Tomini Tang. Still in quarantine. If I’m well away from the tank it will be up and swimming around. Soon as I walk closer to the tank, it will squeeze under a piece of PVC and lay flat on the tank bottom. Absolutely no movement. Three times I thought it was dead, but soon as I walk away, it’s back up swimming again. Thinking of naming it Possum.

I'm noticing tangs have a tendency to do this.
We just introduced a baby Hippo Tang into our new set up and she is bashful!
She explores her reef and eats healthily "loves seaweed" but as soon as she notices that we are looking at her, she hides, flat, under a piece of live rock.
I thought the same thing several times with her @ first.. she would go near the powerhead and intentionally get herself stuck! It freaked me out!
But now I'm realizing its just a Tang thang. ;P

Yes I know,
I was reading about that after my husband brought the baby home.
They are wild caught and are prone to Ick, Fluke, and other pest's.
She has been eating very well! only concern is that there is something I'm not seeing.. She is scratching on some of the rocks in the system.. IDK if its normal behavior or if she has fluke.. I see no visible white dots..

They love to hide. Especially in a new environment.
