So I got a very tiny hippo tang. I always noticed him scratching himself on the sand or the rocks and there are some marks on his side. I researched about this and I learned it was normal for them to scratch themself on rocks.

I edited my photos with numbers
So I number 1 there is a white spot and I’m not sure what that is and also on number 2.

Number 3 shows some light white scratches.

Is my hippo tang doing okie? He is eating a lot of nori and brine shrimp and very active.

I
I really cant tell from the pics.
I am currently adding melafix in my tank everyday so far to fix the torn fin for my damsel but would that cure flukes or flashes ? I do have ick medicine just in case but I need to have a QT tank go that since it has copper.

Sigh so much problems ugh.. thank you though !

You got this, there is a ton of information on this site on how to treat just about everything! You can do it!!

Keep us in the loop how your little guys is doing.

That fish doesn't look well at all. Hippo tangs are one of the most colorful fish there are available and in a healthy one their skin looks like blue velvet with no marks on it. They should also never scratch on the rocks, no healthy fish does that.

The food you are feeding is not good for any fish. Throw out the brine shrimp and limit the nori. I know they eat "fresh" seaweed in the sea but the stuff you are giving him is not the same thing although we aquarists use it a lot and think it is healthy. Drying it removes a lot of the nutrition.

I wouldn't medicate him (or her) but I would get some fresh foods like clams or worms.
"LRS" makes a great frozen food and I would get that right away and also use fresh clams that you can buy live. Fresh foods have living bacteria in it that that fish, and all fish need to look and be healthy.

We should not be satisfied with just keeping fish alive, that's easy. We need to get them into the condition that they were in the sea.

Excuse him, he is pooping.

I recently took this picture of a tang in the sea. Healthy fish never scratch and have no marks on them. You may see a bitten tail and that is OK as healthy fish fight, but they usually win. :D
