Hi all,

wondering if anyone has an idea on IDing this little hitchhiker

have asked around on FB groups etc but mainly got people saying aptaisia or majano anemone which I don’t think it is.

is there any potential that it’s a paly , mushroom or even a baby rock flower anemone ?

bright neon green colour under blue lights and when squirted with a pipette, it looked like it shrunk (pic 2). It is also flat against the piece of rock.

It is a different species for sure, but for all intents and purposes, it is basically a tiny aiptasia. They split frequently and spread throughout the tank. This kind stays very small though, my collection of them never get over 1/2 inch across in size, so they bother corals less than aiptasia or majano anemones.

Looks like a paly single head.

Thanks guys , I’ll keep an eye on it as it grows. May even see if I can break off a bit of rock it’s on and isolate it on a frag plug

Here's a pic of some of mine, with closed up zoas and lots of majanos for size reference.

yep - palythoa - similar to zoa. You dont want to handle or cut..Either inject with kalkwasser mixed into a paste with consistency of toothpaste in the the center core or add a small dab of gel superglue on the heads

I can promise you there are no palythoas in my picture. The only corals on that rock are the closed zoanthids. The rest are anemones.

I may be confused - Can you circle what youre trying to identify?

I am suggesting that these are the same as what OP is asking about:

They grow up to look like this:

Looks like button coral to me. My challenge is this tiny phone screen. Time for a laptop
