R2R family' I have my very first HITCH HIKER and its a BABY STARFISH! OK so I purchased a bag of snails hermit crabs and shells well as days went by I kept seeing itsy bitsy white crumbs so I thought the white crumbs kept moving around the tank but stayed mostly up top NOW I have a clearview of it its a BABY STARFISH and I'm so excited!!!! Now I have to learn how to properly care of it.... Any help is greatly appreciated

Probably an asternia starfish
Some people claim they say coral but I have never had any problems. I think they eat dead or dying coral and people think they are the ones that did it.

Yes will post some

I have found 2 asternia starfish in my tank so far. Hitched a ride on some corals no doubt. I'm guessing it was on the paly/zoa garden rock I purchased a couple weeks ago. I've removed them both for distrust in that some asternia are coral eating. If they were on th zoa/paly rock it's possible they were feeding on them. I have researched that many other types of starfish are also not reef safe.

I do have a large sand sifting starfish that is considered reef safe tho :)

Its two of them WOOHOO!

KJ, do have some, and are they easy to care for?

I have tons of these things in my tank and have never caused any problem at all.

They are scavengers, and are good in that sense. That said its not worth it to me to allow that species in my tank. Too much of a risk.

Wow in the tank that I discovered them in has no corals just live rock
