I’m trying to determine what this is? Thought is was some kind of algae but the cleaning crew ignores it.

i bought an euphyllia skeleton with what i thought to be "nice big patches of algae for my clean up crew in this sterile new tank" when i first started and found out it was all hydroid tubes... pretty disturbing

It looks like some new growth of Halimedia (macroalgae). Is it more 'animal like' or 'plant like' ?

I would say it’s more plant like, but it’s basically a series of hollow tubes, not sure what (if anything) are in the tubes.

I would say it’s more plant like, though it’s a series of hollow tubes. I’m not sure what, if anything, is in the tubes, i’ve not seen anything poke out of them yet and it’s been in the tank several days.

previous colonial hydroids, i have the same thing but 10 times the amount, all empty tubes that looked like algae at first.

I went ahead and took the rock out based on the idea it’s hydroids. I don’t really want them populating in the tanks.

theyre probably already dead if you dont see anything coming out of the tubes.
