I picked up a purple tang about a month and a half ago he was QT’d at the fish store for 2 months and was doing fine. Only problem he started getting HLLE and refused seaweed the whole time. I figured once added to my tank seeing all the other tangs eat nori he would join in and I was right he started eating it the first day in my tank. His lateral line is no longer white and back to purple now however around his eyes is getting worse. I don’t run carbon except once a month for a few days maybe. I feed atleast 6 sheets of nori a day and mysis soaked in vitamins along w flakes and pellets different days. I got a yellow tang from a friend before that had HLLE really bad and got him over it fairly easy and he is in great shape today. Do purple tangs get it worse or is it harder to fix w them?

Just depends on the fish.

I have a sailfin that only eats nori. He formed HLLE in copper. Slowly but surely it's improving, using Zoecon soaked Nori.

I use Selcon and Vitachem regularly in my frozen mix I feed. Zoecon is what really has helped.

Consider making a fish "smoothie" for your Purple Tang. Get a variety of frozen cubes one or two of each: chopped clams, seaweed, cyclops, mysis and cubes for Butterfly fish (contains lots of essential sponges, etc.). Place in a tupperware in your fridge allow it to "slump" (thaw). Strain off the excess water. Add some vitamins like Zoecon (it's formulated especially for HLLE) to the mix. The mix will stay good in your fridge for several days. And you may want to consider slowly cutting back on the flakes and pellets. And if you can try feeding some live black or white worms. Very high in protein and fats.

Defiantly going to look into the zoecon. Didn’t want to write to much but I do make a smoothie concoction like you suggested w multiple things but never tried the butterfly formula. Didn’t know they liked the sponges a lot but will deffinatly add to the mix. As far as flakes and pellets that’s just a pinch every few days to mix up there food. I only use the new life spectrum marine formula pellets and aqua life calanus and spirulina flake. Are certain flake and pellets bad for tangs in general or what? Also thanks for the help!!!
