So it looks like my Bristle Tooth Tang is getting HLLE on his face. I feed LRS carnivore and Sally's mysis sling with Nori 3 to 5 times a week.

I do run BRS Rox 0.8 carbon in a reactor and cleaned by running at least of gallon of tank water through it while doing water changes. It is changed out every 2 weeks.

Any suggestions of how to help him?

You might try feeding veggies more often. Also some people will mention a grounding probe. Once you have it it's hard to get rid of it IMO. I did have some success not running carbon at all with a hippo tang I had years ago.

Yeah I have a ground probe in as well, but I'll check for stray voltage again.

So does HLLE eventually become fatal? Or is it just a cosmetic issue?

It's more of a cosmetic issue, but if left unchecked the fish can reach the point of no return and look like Skeletor for the rest of his life. ;) Definitely check for stray voltage, as you seem to have the two other theories (cheap carbon & nutritional deficiency) about HLLE already covered.

As I thought no stray voltage. I did pick up some Selcon to see if that helps at all. Hopefully keep things where they are now and not have it get any worse. Thanks for the insight!

did you ever get this solved?
adding HUFA to food is a good step. (Highly unsaturated fatty acid) it has been shown to stop it and also if used regularly your tangs won't get it. The damage almost never reverses.
