Hmmm....is it getting ready to split?

So I’ve had my nem about 10 months now. Started off about the size of a golf ball.

It comes from a friend and a long line of splits.

It has always been close to the rock like this

Today, it is really stretched upwards and you can see how it’s reached over and attached to another spot to the right.

Maybe getting ready to split?

What do you think?

I've never been able to tell if my bta's are going to split until they do...but that's just me.

Rarely do I witness mine split in front of me. I generally find the 'drops in the early morning. ugh.

Your pic certainly looks as though it is wanting to split.

Often you will see a faint division line on disc before anything as obvious as a 2nd mouth, but many times it does happen too fast to know it's coming.

I would say change in posture like this makes it very probable.

I have looked into the characteristics of a BTA before it splits in extreme detail. Unfortunately, there is no real way to tell. Literally when it does decide to split it will be a relatively fast process. Very few consistent signs foreshadowing a split. The only time splitting had a high likelihood was when the aquarist caused some kind of stressful event e.g. large water change or changing lights.

I have seen a faint division line on the disc as well, seen them twist in funny shapes and seen their foot start to split into 2 before the split. Crazy!

If you guys lived closer I would hook you up with one of Mike's nems cousins. They have to be related somewhere down the line.

One of Humphrey's? Got one from Keith about a month ago and it's looking like it wants to split as well. Pictures don't do justice of this variety in my opinion!
