whats up people, jus had a qwik question and I was hoping I can get an answer.. I jus setup my 1st quarantine tank that's will stay running from today.. I plan to use it as a hospital tank as well if needed.. It's a 20 long.. I filled it up w/15 gals of my DT water and 5 fresh saltwater.. I'm running a hob filter for a 55 so that covers my flow.. I added my sponge that's on my return pump, and a half of my filter sock to jump the cycle in my tank.. Question is, can I put the bag of chemi pure that I had in my sump for a month in the hob bein that it should have beneficial bacteria on it and still good for a month.. Or am I good with what I have now?? I have ceramic things in a bag in the sump now building up bacteria to switch over in couple wks.. Thanks for the help

I'm sure it would be beneficial to see the tank with bacteria as water carries very little of it

A lot depends on how many fish you plan on keeping in quarantine at one time. The sponge is probably enough but throwing the Chemi-pure in won't hurt anything (unless it comes time to medicate....then you will need to remove the bag along with the bacteria you are trying to keep). Best bet is to just use the sponge and check daily for Ammonia for a few days while the fish are in there.

I wouldn't add the chemi pure. It's not needed at all. Just the sponge filter in your HOB is fine. It would be even better if you had some Dr. Tims one and only or Biospira and soaked your sponge in that for a day before putting it in your filter. You'll be golden after that. Make sure you have an ammonia badge too as your test kits wont work well-if at all when meds are present. Once you introduce fish, you'll need to monitor your ammonia constantly and make sure to have fresh saltwater ready to do water changes just in case.
