Hola Friends, while spending some trance time in front of the tank yesterday I noticed this random piece of coral sitting in the sand. I glued him down but can't seem to find any existing colony from which he may have parted ways.

I know he's tiny, but I thought maybe someone would recognize him or have an idea where he may have come from. I have not had any additions to my system in almost a year. As always, I thank you all for your comments [emoji1]

It almost looks like a colt coral nubbin I used to have until a hermit crab ran off with it. The polyps, or whatever it is, poking out are throwing me off though.

Did you use aquacultured/maricultured liverock in your tank? Could be some sort of hitchiker deal.

Majority of rock is CaribSea Life Rock. But I did have a couple of pieces that were from Tampa Bay Live Rock. They have some lesser starlet coral hitchhikers on them (which I love). But all rock is going on 3 years now. I feel like I would've noticed something like this by now but maybe he slipped under the radar.

Hard to say, If I were to guess with would say something wrapped with sponge growth.

Thank you! I suspected that at first as well. The structure is quite rigid though. Not what I was expecting. Lol I'm definitely fascinated to see it grow (hopefully)

Had stated a 300 gallon reef with live rock .About 1 year or so later noticed this tiny coral on a rock so small not sure what it was now another year later it is a 4 inch green fungi

Are you sure that is not a macro algae? it Seems fast to have grown that much of a skeleton?

It might be a year and half but I took it out of tank about 2 months ago and hard Skelton is about 3 inch round

I'm sure it's not macro. I researched the skeleton as well as the polyps. I'm fairly certain. But who knows. It is small and maybe tome will reveal more :)
