So I have a mechanical filter running that came with our 30 gal tank I was thinking about turning into a small refugium.
We have about 30lbs of live rock in the tank as well as an in tank skimmer but don't have a sump. Our levels are good but the phosphate hovers around .25 while nitrates are around 15.
My initial thoughts are to take out the standard filter media and replace it with biomax in the base and cheato on top or something similar. It would be lit by the tank lights. The internal volume of the filter ends up just short of 2 gallons and it claims to push 160 gph.
Does this make sense? Would it be at all more beneficial than the standard media? Too small to be worth while? Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.
