Hob filter

For those that have the Tidal filters how did you all setup the media inside the basket? Did you all run the blue filter pad that goes on the bottom of the media basket? And if so does that have to be cleaned regularly or should I remove and just run mesh bag of matrix?

Aqua ax has a HOB skimmer and refugium combo that I’m looking at for my 40B. I have a tidal 55 and aqua max 1.5 HOB on it now and they both work great but it looks messy.

what do you mean it looks messy? You have a large bio load of fish? What do you run inside your tidal?

I mean having both hanging on the back along with the ato and heater looks messy. If I just had the aqua max combo I could put the ato and heater in the combo along with the media and only have one item showing hanging off the back of the aquarium. The aquamaxx skimmer is awesome

what exactly do you run in your Tidal? Starting from the bottom of the basket?

I use the blue filter pad, floss, LR rubble, bag of carbon, bag of purigen.
I pull all out every other week or so, swap the floss, rinse the filter pad and purigen and remove the carbon for a few weeks. I also run a hob seaside aquatics, (very similar to the aquamaxx... very similar, but cheaper with the same sicce pump). I agree with the messy look of all the HOB equipment, and I've thought about using the aquamaxx HOB refugium skimmer combo to eliminate the clutter. Just decided it isn't broke, so why fix it. I’m in the same boat I haven’t switched because what I’m using is working but if I was starting fresh I’d do the aquamaxx combo.
The fish I have:
Tracey Damsel
Clown
Flame angel
Fang Blenny
Watchman Goby
Dartfish
What’s in your 40B

Sorry, Idk if this was to me

Mine is a 70 something bowfront. 2 maroon clowns, 3 blue damsels, marine betta, yellow tang, diamond goby, few corals, and a green BTA that just split 3. Water changes of 20% at least every other week. I feed flake, pellets, frozen, and reef roids every other day. (Not all of them, I switch) Nitrates 15ppm phosphate .2

Im gonna be running a Tidal 75 on a 40G Breeder and wanted to remove the Blue filter it comes with and just run a filter bag with matrix and filter floss on top of that. The floss will be changed out weekly. And Matrix rinsed as needed.
