I have a 36 gallon tank with a Marineland penguin with the two biowheels and I’m not very happy with it.. the wheels always get stuck and you cant really customize the filtration due to the fact it flows up the middle and out to the left and right on top so i tried to put filter pads on top with chemi pure then matrix on bottom but i feel like the water rolls over the pad and out.. I’ve been looking at the Aquaclear 70.. i was wondering from anyone that has one.. how is it, should i make the switch and can i use the matrix on the bottom then chemi pure then filter pad on top with no problems? Thanks

Ok thanks that’s what i was looking for.. so the water comes in the bottom and goes up and out.. that’s why the media needs to be flipped.. which then i could use filter floss as well. My problem using it with the Marineland was the wheels would pull the floss thru and it would end up floating in my tank

Getting lazier and lazier with upkeep!
I have Aquaclear HOB filters for my quarantine tanks. They are nice for adding filter media. But, I am thinking of switching over to a better, self-priming, HOB filter. Occasionally, if the electric goes out for a second, the Aquaclear doesn't always self-prime itself and continually grinds until I notice it. I'm not sold on them...

When I used to run HOB filters I always preferred the Marineland ones. When I switched to an Aquaclear one, I was really disappointed because it caused a waterfall from the return since it sits higher and made my tank really loud.
