Hello. I need your opinion on this HOB mechanical filter. Is it necessary to have? seems like its theres too much on the back of the tank and looks messy. I have a Cpr Medium sized HOB refugium, HOB protein skimmer and this double sized mechanical filter with Carbon, Extra sponges and pot scrubbers (Heard it acts as media), And chemi pure pro that completely removed my phosphates. help please.

Yes you can remove It. You don't want to have pads or any type of filter media on a reef tank unless you want to clean them often. If you are using a skimmer and live rock that will be your filter system. Some people will use their mechanical filter to run carbon, phosguard etc through them.

You can run it to get the other debre out that floats by them, ya just gotta keep an eye on your Nitrates, as they can collect and cause issues. I run a canister filter on mine, but I run it so I can dose a liquid phosphate remover.

I cant answer your question but I used to have 2 of those 36g bow front tanks and those exact stands as well! I wish i would've kept one of them to turn in to a sw tank like you did! Cant find them anywhere!

Yea they are hard to find. I think they still sell the rectangular bowfronts but discontinued the triangular back tanks. The only downfall is not being able to put a bottom sump that fits inside the stand because the shape.

My girlfriend wants to know what all those cables are that go around the corner are for? LOL

I have a 20 Gallon RO Reservoir inside the bottom closet. For my auto top off. Ive been trying to figure out a better way to organize the cables or hide it better Lol
