Want to start off by saying thank you to all members, I have come to this forum many times for advice and have always got great valuable ideas and suggestions that have helped me , even after 25 years in the hobby!

I have a 75g reef and due to some poor decisions and a year ago I am now wanting a sump, the tank is rocking but I want to take all the equipment out of the tank , drilling is not a option at this time , I have all my ideas set ready to go but before I make my final purchase I want to know which HOB overflow and why, it’s either the eshopps PF-800 or the CPR CS90?

Please let me know what you think , and if you have time a great DC return pump

Thank you in advance

They are both fine overflows but I don't like the fact you have to rely on a separate piece of equipment to keep the overflow functioning properly like you do with the CPR.. the aqualifter pumps need to be replaced every year or two and are getting harder to find these days, the pump is also an added expense and ideally you would keep a back up or two on hand for emergencies.. The PF-800 is just plug and play, set it up properly and they are pretty much bullet proof.

Cant say anything about CPR Overflows but I recently purchased CPR hang on refugium for my sump.

I have to say I am quite impressed with the construction and ascetics of the product. The build quality really exceeded my expectations. I hope this helps!

Have you had any issues with your PF after a power outage?

No.. again if they are set up properly very little chance of failure. I have never drilled a tank in 35 years of reefing, alway used HOB overflows ;) you can also cheaply add a sensor to tank that will shut off return pump if for some reason overflow fails.

Is there a way to setup incorrectly?.

What size tank you have and which overflow are you using ?

I use the 800 on my 65. I am in the process, when I get some plumbing stuff, of swapping it out for the 1200. It cannot handle the GPH it claims. That being said, I would 100% get the eshopps over the CPR. It requires no additional equipment, which means no additional point of failure. And in over 4 years, I've never had an issue with it restarting. Including whenever I turn the pumps off, when there are multi day power outages, nothing. It is super easy to start, and once it is going, as long as the flow is quick enough that air bubbles move through it, zero concerns.

I've had the PF800 on my 75g for 5 years now with no issues at all. I opted for this one because the CPR relies on a pump for the siphon and one less cord I need to plug in.

basically you need proper flow to eliminate chance of air pocket forming in U tube and you must install something to prevent snails from possibly getting into overflow box and blocking U tube, I use gutter guard for this..

Check out my build thread for all my equipment information..
