Hello all. I'm new to reef tanks and have been putting together all equipment to get my 75g corner flow tank set up. I have an eshopps rs 75 sump, but found and purchased an eshopps rs 200 today. The 200 came with a pf 800? Overflow box. I currently have a 29g standard tank that I as a qt tank. My wife has now decided she wants the 29g in the bedroom. Could I use the pf 800 overflow box and slow the flow down to say 300 gph for the 29g tank?

Yes, you will have no problens slowing the flow rate down. Remember, the flow rate is dictated by your return pump.

Thank you. I was just worried that too low of flow would starve the siphon. I'll order a pump in the 500gph range an try it out

To low of flow with an hob overow may cause it to eventually loose its siphon

I figured there's min flow required to maintain siphon. Just wondering if its 50% or less? Any pump recommendations around 600gph? Preferably budget related for this trial

Many years ago, I ran an Amiracle HOB overflow box on my 29 gallon tank. It had very similar dimensions as well as the same 1” U-tube as your Eshopps PF800 HOB. It ran just fine with no issues with breaking siphon. I used a Mag 7 throttled back about 25% with a ball valve. What‘s your budget for the return pump that you’d like for this project?

I run 2 Mighty Jets, one for a reactor, the other for my UV sterilizer. Unless you’re using it as a return for an AIO tank, I wouldn’t use it. In a sumo situation, it won’t have enough head pressure capability to push water from the sump up to your tank IMO. If you want to look at a cheap DC pump for your return, take a look at the Jebao DCP line of pumps.

I’d go DCP3000 at 792 gph at 11.5’ max head height. You can always turn it down. The 2500 only has a max head height of 8’.
