I'd love to get something like the eshopps PF-1200 for my 180g so I can ultimately get a sump and rid myself of my canister filter.

My tank has these annoying glass braces at the top on each side (I assume they are to help hold lids since they don't seem to provide any structural support).

My tank is a 180g peninsula so I want the HOB to be located on one of the sides (not the back). My glass is tempered.

Some questions:
1. Can the glass brace be cut or is it also tempered? (Would a side brace be tempered for some reason?) This would allow me to hang the HOB overflow off the side of my tank as desired.
2. Can I perhaps customize an HOB such that the interior box is fixed to the glass inside the tank, a vinyl or silicone tube snakes from the interior box, up around the glass brace, and drains into the overflow mounted outside the tank? Trying to reduce my headache but these braces are making that difficult.

I know it's tricky to explain. I'll try to provide some photos tomorrow morning.

Does anyone have these side braces at the top of their tank like I do?

You can see I've already had to plumb around this glass "shelf" to keep my pipes somewhat clean. I'd love to remove my intake pipe completely and replace it with a HOB overflow box so I can have a sump. Just not sure how to do that short of either cutting the glass "shelf" or custom designing pieces to go around it.

Is there any way to visually determine if glass is tempered or not? If the brace isn't tempered, I'm down for cutting it. If cutting it will affect structural integrity, I might be screwed.

Is that self glued to the top of the 'normal' plastic support?

I think these are called euro-braces:

I don't have any experience with the Eshopps overflow, but Lifereef offers custom HOB overflows that can fit over euro-braces. I have had no problems with my Lifereef overflow and I have heard that these are very similar to the Eshopps ones.

Eshops from My understanding modeled thiers after Lifereef.

@djs4him looks like its a plastic trim with glass glued to it. Maybe a cross between the two designs.

You could hang the HOB on the side where it isn’t braced. Maybe not the prettiest option, but if all else fails.

thanks @sfin52

@djs4him the is really a question for the manufacturer. Have you tried to contact the manufacturer?

Looks like the glass on the ends could be on top of the shorts and part of the longs, corner support at the top.
Unfortunately this is just a tank I purchased from Facebook Marketplace. I might be able to find a sticker somewhere on it but so far I see nothing.
