HOB Overflow is irritating ne at the moment...

Ok my overflow is not releasing a constant flow of water, it will build up then dump it which in turn lowers the sump so my pump is pushing air and water back to the tank any ideas? It's a MarineDepot OF with 1 1/4 drain hose with 1 in. pvc ends. It has a collecting sponge in it also should I remove it? Thanks.

Is there air in the tubing by any chance? It sounds like you may not be getting a continuous flow of water from the tank either because of air or the height of the HOB.

Sounds like a toilet flushing? Have you tried turning the flow down it's just to much for the overflow so it goes full syphon. You could also try sticking airline down it to draw out the air in the line

You may be on the something with air bubbles, the tubing is 4.5 ft and I really only need maybe 3 so it does have a big loop in it.

I have several feet so I'm going to give it a try.

Ok problem finally fixed, I reduced the 1" over flow tube at the sump to 3/4" and then put a ball valve in the return and now I feel like the master of my domain! I control everything and it's super quiet now. Thanks for your help.
