Hey yeah, I have had mine for over a year with no issues. I firmly believe 90% of the horror stories come from poor husbandry. My setup is fairly simple and straight forward, I have an eshopps hob overflow with flex tubing to the sump and a return pump with flex tubing to the tank.
the key is to either have a pump you can regulate the intensity or have a gate Valve to regulate flow. Once both are in synch there will be little to worry. I do a monthly cleaning of the HOB overflow to avoid Algae growth as much As I can.
One thing I did in mine when I set it up the first time is run multiple drills of power outages/pump failures and also siphon breaks to make sure in the event of either both the sump and the tank can take the excess of water but if you want you can also have some sensors do that for you now lol.
if you have any questions let me know.
