I have a 30 gallon and looking for a hob protein skimmer. I would like to look for something 100$ and under. Any suggestions? Is it better to just save for an expensive one? Has anyone had any luck with a cheaper one? Thanks

This is what I use. It's actually very impressive

But it hangs inside of the tank not on the back (which is safer imo)

Originally I was going to buy a sub $100 protein skimmer but found a old used reef octo on craigslist and bought it with the quickness. It's been running great and pulling tons of stuff from the water I missed during water changes. I'm not sure why hob skimmers get a ton of hate, but god dang this thing is working well.

whatever you do, dont get the Macro Aqua M-50 HOB, I got it a few months ago for its cheapness, and have regretted it from day 1. I just ordered the Aquamaxx 1.5 HOB, it will arrive on Monday, but the darn thing costs $300.

Honestly, i suggest checking your local online classifieds to find a better quality second hand product for cheap, rather than buying brand new cheap product.
