Hob protein skimmer trouble

Hi guys not sure if my skimmer is working
The foam don't seem to be reaching the suction cups. The water is dirty in cups after a day is this normal . It's cycling there is no fish at the moment in tank

No fish....very little, if any skimmate. Wait until fish....you'll get some skimmate!

Scrimmage ? Is that why not lots of foam as no fish?

I would have to agree with my esteemed colleague, no fish = no poop... more fish = more poop.

It is not ever suggested to cycle with fish. Just continue to ghost feed your tank daily. It took my tank 6 weeks to cycle that way. You can buy some stuff that adds the bacteria to your tank and that will speed the cycle up. Then, when your tank is reading 0 amonia, and 0 nitrites and your nitrates are climbing. Do a water change and then you can add fish slowly to your system.

I've fixed it....but that is what happens when you have auto correct and it doesn't recognize "skimmate", and I'm not paying attention.
