Hob protein skimmer

I’ve been using a innovative hob protein skimmer on my 28 gallon cube, I recently deep cleaned the cube and upgraded a smaller tank into it changing only the sand bed and probably using about 3/4 of the old water the rest new saltwater. I hooked up the skimmer and it keeps bubbling over, it never did that before.
Could it be because the tank is basically new and nothing much to skim ? Will it eventually settle down. I’ve unplugged it for now since it’s keeps overflowing onto my floor

Sounds to me like it’s breaking in again, pulling out every bit of whatever that is binding to those bubbles. I remember when I went from the cheap-o HOB skimmer to my first Reef Octopus and same thing happened. It settled after a day or two. I think you’ll be ok
