It seems that the efficiency of my skimmer is reduced by the blockage of the filter in the return column of the unit. Is it possible to use a sock type of material to put over the intake tube to collect larger particles of debris before they enter the actual skimmer? As it stands now, the skimmer is very effective at removing organics, but looses effect as the “return collection porous pad” becomes dirty. This causes me to have to disassemble and clean the unit more frequently than seems necessary.
I don’t have a sump so some options won’t work.

Here’s a stock pic. The intake tube is directly in front of the motor and has the Venturi in between. The question is whether some type people of thin filter can material could be placed ove the intake tube to reduce sponge clogging on the return chamber.

FYI, this unit works exceptionally well. The only “flaw” is the clogging of the sponge in the bottom left chamber of the unit. This creates a decrease in efficiency and increases more cleaning. More cleaning means using more RODI water, etc.

I dont see why you couldnt use a sock or other filter media there to help...i actually cut my sponges on the intake so i could take them off easily to clean.
