I have a 75g reef tank all HOB and staying that way. I looked into the CPR and the Auqamaxx refugiums. Looking at getting the aquamaxx and a light but wanting to know everyones outcome with their own. Much more affordable. Will this size or what is the recommended for a HOB to control PHOSPHATE and NITRATE. Plus I want to future house a mandarin Goby with a good POD source.

thanks again!

I use the aquamaxx HF-M. I really love it. It has a great protein skimmer, then water travels through a bio media filter and I have a carbon bag there, then it enters the Refugium chamber. I have some small rubble rock in there and a submersible light and growing chaeto. I also loaded it with pods and have noticed some in the display now. It also has built in dosing tubes and I just set up my two part to dose in there. It is super quiet and all in one snd my tank is looking great. I highly recommend it.

I have a medium Fijicube one, it's well built but the pump sucks and didn't last long.
I replaced it with a ,Marineland 400 powerhead pump that's still working 2 years latter.

I have a cpr aquatic small fuge. I love it. I did have to replace my stock pump. I use it as my primarily means of nutrient export.

I used Aquamaxx one. It was okay. The space is small.. there was pods back there. I don't think it was very good for nutrient reduction on larger tanks due to limited space. There was salt creep around the pump side. Needs cleaning to keep light penetration. More work than reward.

Could always do a HOB overflow into a good sized fuge.

What size aquarium?
60 gallon aquarium. That is about the max size of its rating but I’d be comfortable going up to about 90g with it. If you like a lot of mechanical filter, you might need to supplement it with a second hob unit. I’ve thought about doing that but for now I don’t have the need. Live rock, wave maker and the aquamaxx is doing well.

What size tank?
20 long. Tank has matured and I no longer use it as a refugium. It houses a protein skimmer now as well as adds 1.5 gallons of water to total volume of tank. Tank no longer grows much algae and what it does a pin cushion urchin eats.
