Would any of you as means of convenience add a hang on back refugium directly onto the sump like this one? Red Sea reefer 250

Do you have room just to plumb one in. Easily make a 10gallon fudge.

That's basically the same thing I've done and doing now. I feed it off of my sump piping instead of a pump and dial in the flow. It overflows into my sump via 2 big bulkheads.

My concerns would be noise and that looks like it would need return pump level water height. If you could run pvc as a return then submerge the end I think it would help, but not sure if that's possible

Do you You have a picture of your setup? I can figure out the piping but the water Heights and pump and flow and all that has my lost

My old setup was taken down in probably 2013 and I have no idea where my pics would be.

My old setup (which Im replicating now) was like a remote sump. I basically raise a tank just enough so it can overflow back into the sump with 1" bulkheads like a main display tank. I twist a ball valve to slow the flow so chaeto etc can do its thing the water fills the fuge then gravity takes it back to the sump just like your main tank.

What youre looking at looks like basically an aquaclear to me. It hangs on the side then the return will slash water everywhere unless your water level is right at it. It looks like its designed for a main display. These are just my observations. Now if you could plumb the return with pvc then run that under your water level i think that would work.

Well that hang on back fuge is like 290 bucks and a 5 gallon tank I have laying around so if I can plumb a refugium in usuing gravity to my advantage. I’ll look into it

Ok. I'm plumbing the new stuff up this weekend hopefully so I'll take a pic

Very crude dwg but maybe this will help you visualize what I'm saying.

I'm going to do the fuge return overflow behind the skimmer right before the pump instead of before the skimmer like the sticky note depicts.

Yes good visual thank you for that. Are you teeing off your return line to feed the refugium ?

Yea. I'm teeing off with a 3/4 ball valve that I will adjust to slow down the flow. Use dual bulkheads to avoid a flood.

this is exactly what I need to see. I may mimic your idea. The 2 one inch bulk heads are at different heights ?

Same height but you could put one higher if you want like an emergency drain. Its just for redundancy.
