Hey,

I'm looking into adding A HOB Refugium to my 40 breeder. I have no sump. I'm just running a HOB Tidal 55 filter. It's good but I'm looking for somewhere to to store algae to help with excess nutrients and have somewhere for my pods to grow for a continuous food source for my Mandarin Dragonet. A dumped a bag of pods in the tank about 10 days ago and I'm not sure how long that bag will last or if any of those pods had time to reproduce to create more food. Those are the 2 reasons I want a Refugium. My question is, since I see I can add a media bag back there along with the algae, do I really need my Tidal filter? Can I just run my tank on the HOB Refugium alone? I'm afraid the tank will be too clean and kill my corals

Get an aquaclear hob filter and turn it into a refugium. Im pretty sure there is a write up on how to do it on here. There are also plenty of videos on youtube showing how to convert it.

Interesting. Yea I'll have to see videos on that since I think I'd need a light for it.

Anyone have a recommended HOB refugium? Would prefer not to have to convert anything, or anything like that. Happy to buy a light for it

I would still keep your tideline for surface skimming. i had to get an additional surface skimmer when I ran my hob fuge.

CPR Aquatics. I really liked my CPR aquatics small refugium. I haven't had any experiences with fijicube, but those allow you to put the pump in the fuge instead of the tank.

I personally bought a HOB filter and converted it into a Refugium. I bought a submersible light, threw some chaeto in it with a small media bag and jumped in some pods for my Manderin Dragonette. Been up for a few months and seems like it's working fine. Had to pick out some chaeto because it grows fast
