Hob skimmer HELP!!

Why no sump?
I tried sump less on a 33 with mediocre results. Went to a sump and life got soo much easier. Corals are piping and water quality is great. I'm glad I made accommodations to get a sump in a system I originally did not think I could sump.
To answer your question. Reef octopus is the way to go IF you HAVE to do sump less. They are more money but worth it because they come with a better pump. If you buy cheap you'll just end up regretting it and waste more money in the long run when you get the itch for a better skimmer. Which you will.. We've all been there before.

Haha I've hear reef octopus is the way to go, any models you suggest?
I can't have a sump because I'm a college student and live across the state from my parents home where is stay in the summer. It's hard enough to keep a tank with the commuting, it would just add to the chaos if I had another tank to take home with me every summer. I do have a hob refugium I recently put on which I am hoping will help compensate a little for not having a sump.

Ah. Understandable. Well reef octo would be my recomendation. Although I can't speak from exp. I had a crappy coralife hob and it was a noisey point of sale. so I finally went to a sump and bubble magus knockoff. It pulls the darkness daily.

Since ALL HOB skimmers (and all skimmers for that matter) tend to occasionally overflow, the Aquamaxx HOB is the only one out there that actually designs around it. The overflow dumps back into the skimmer body. Trust me. Your skimmer will overflow sometimes. Plus the Aquamaxx is actually the top rated HOB skimmer out there.

i have a Aquamax HOB, excellent skimmer, highly recommend it. BTW Love this skimmer for the overflow feature. It did happen once , the overflow dumps back into the skimmer body. It saved me from a wet floor.

I used the AquaC remora Max for 2 1/2 years with no other filtration on a 40 gallon breeder if you look at my posts before hurricane sandy you will see how well my tank fared i had 4 bta's 2 clowns, a yellow tang, a firefish and plenty of coral.
