Looking at the Aqua ultraviolet 15 HOB sterilizer. I know people say don’t take water from sump and have it go back into sump. so I have two options the way I see it.

1. throw a T pvc piece off my return line through the UV using a gate valve to adjust flow through it.

2. use my spare Cobalt Mj 1200 pump rated at 295 gph that’s in the sump compartment after the sock. I can run it from there back into the tank.

any input on better options? Only doing this to help kill some brown sand issues I cant fix. I notice the sand is clean at night and the brown dust comes in the light.

Sounds like you have dinoflagellates like ostreopsis like I'm battling. Releases into the water column when lights off.

Need to I'd them if you can.

When I started my battle, I did a blackout for 81 hours, added bottled bacteria and ran my UV. My UV is plumbed to my manifold in my basement sump.

After the blackout, it took a day for them to slightly come back.

That's when I decided to move the UV to the DT. I bought a small utility pump and mounted the UV in my canopy. It's helped a great deal having it on the DT and pulling water from the DT and back to the DT.

It just wasn't effective down in the sump as the Dino's would stay mostly in the DT.

I have since added more copepods and dosing phytoplankton everyday.

Sounds like a plan. Do you run it 24/7 or just at night? I don’t have a real good way to hide a pump and don’t want it all in the display.

Here’s some pics. Top is daytime under white lights ( normally I’m 55% blue 5% white ) and the bottom is tonight at midnight after lights have been out a few hours

24/7. Look at it this way, it's a temporary thing until the problem is fixed, then move it. It's your call.

BRS did a video on Dino's:

Looks like ostreopsis, especially with it disappearing at night and coming back with light.

Here's how bad mine got before I did something about it:

I am thinking of getting the same Aqua UV 15 watts HOB as well. Anyone is hanging it on the sump? OP, what's the reason people say not to take water from sump and back to the sump? The water still go back to DT regardless. This is the cleaner look. I don't know if it will hang perfectly on the V3 sump or will it be too long. Would love to hear from people that have same set up.

Hello so referring to the comments above what is the reason for not returning uv water too the sump again.??. Thanks.
