So I bought live sand, two months ago (yeah it's taking me forever to setup :) and realized one of the bags as a hole and the water leaked out. I realize the sand is no longer live, but can I still use the sand or would "bad bacteria" get in it?

You're OK. The bacteria is really very resilient and you'll still have plenty of life in there. You might have some more dead material to cycle off, but nothing to worry about.

+1 on this.

If bacteria was this easy to kill there wouldn't be nearly the market for anti-bacterial soap! The bacteria may have gone into a cyst stage and take a few days to become active but it should still be in there and ready to go. Other life in the sand (if any) may have died but you need ammonia to cycle anyway, and this will just add a bit.

Ok great. Thank you so much for the answers. I wasn't sure if it would introduce anything bad and didn't want to throw $20 away :)
