Hole size and placement

I ordered a 75 gallon tank. Planning on using a 20 gallon Sump. I'm going to have a total of three holes drilled in the tank. Two for the overflow which will be 1 1/2" (shadow overflow box) and one for the return. I plan on putting the overflow in the middle under the brace.

Should I go with 1 1/2" hole for return or smaller? How far from the edge of the glass does the hole need to be? Thanks guys!

Are you asking for the size of the bulkhead you should use or the size of the actual hole?

My return pump is 951 gph so would 1" be better or should I go bigger? If I should use 1" abs bulk heads, I would tell the company to drill a 45 mm hole right?

Wow! 951 gph is a lot of flow for a tank that size. If you really want that much flow you will need the 1 1/2" bulkhead. Personally, I would go with a 1" bulkhead and shoot for 300gph-400gph. Anything else is just extra sump noise imo.

Thanks! I really appreciate the help! I just let them know the size so now I just play the waiting game until the tank gets here

When you say 951 gph, is that the advertised capacity of the pump or what you have calculated it will be after head losses? If it's advertised, my guess is the actual flow after you get it plumbed up will be around half that. I. That case, 3/4" will be plenty big for a return.
