SO>>>> I had a few projects this winter that I wanted to accomplish. First was to cut out some of the door frame and wall between the Kitchen and the Fish room. Here is the finished product on that. The reason for this change was so I could open teh freezer door all the way without pulling the fridge out 3 feet. BONUS, it made the fish room and kitchen feel bigger! BUT, there was a major gap in the floor where the wall used to be so.....

#2 was to rip out the carpet in the fish room and put down wood. the wife has wanted this for a while since when I drip saltwater on the carpet it can leave a spot. we matched the wood pretty closely and here is the evidence.

Finished around the stand. Looks like the tank is just floating there on the floor. yet all this was done without moving the fish.

I was SOOO nervous when we got close to the tank. I was afraid i would hit the glass with the floor hammer. YIKES>>

Looks good how you like doing the hardwood floor we did it 2 years ago to the whole house

Keith. it was hard work. especially when we got into a box with a bunch of warped boards. that was hard work having to stab a screwdriver into the sub floor and then use it to pull and pry the new boards into place because they were warped 1/4" over a 3' span. but me and dad got it done. NON-pneumatic floor hammer and all. my hand got tired of gripping that heavy mallet and all the bending over.

we do want to do more in the house like maybe our bedroom, but that is double this space and I dont look forward to it. I may do Berber in there instead.

We had a pneumatic floor hammer and made it a lot easier and more fun too the wife loved using it

Looks good Lindsey, but I thought you built a "fish room" ie.. sump room. LOL. So did you not do under the tank?

Rick, nope. Didn't move the tank. Just cut the carpet around it and all but a 2 foot stretch in the back. We added a bottom board all the way around (routed to match stand) then the ¼round to make it look finished. The last board and ½ extend back behind the tank 18" on each side to make it appear finished. When we sell the house I just pull the last 28" of wood and redo.

And yes.. sump still in garage.

Great job. My wife wants to rip our carpet out and put down wood too. Ugh. Looks great.

Looks good but I don't envy you having to deal with warped boards. How do you think they got warped?

Harry, no telling. I guess not dried well enough or bad quality control.
