Two months ago at a local fish club meeting I ended up getting a nice size frag of Hollywood stunner chalice. When I glued it in my tank I accidentally broke it in a few preices. I then wanted to see what level in my tank since I have a hex tank. I placed two of the frags at the top then one at the bottom on my frag rack. After a month all edges healed but the bottom frag had great growth. Now after another month have even more growth. I'm gonna move the other frags down for growth. Anyone else have similar experiences with there chalice? First pic is of original frag. Then bottom frag after a month. The tops frags after two months and the last is of the bottom frag after two months.

Stunner will grow like a weed. I had one in high flow and high light. It got the size of a volley ball in less than a year and was killing everything around it so I sold all but one tiny piece. I put it in lower light and flow and it is growing very slow now.

I always thought they should be put in low flow/light. That's a nice looking piece you have there Connie.

I too got a small frag of Hollywood stunner and put it under high light and high flow. Once it started to grow, it curled up/started to grow vertically at the edges. I moved it several times in diff positions in the tank to see if I could manipulate it's growth patterns. I noticed that on some capping corals that if they are in low light areas they tend to grow horizontally. And if they are receiving high light they will either grow vertically or begin to pillar. I may start to turn it on the vertical to see what growth patterns develop since the whole time I've just had it laying flat.

Nice chalice Connie. I got my from a friend whose grew like a weed and hope to make it a center piece in my tank.

Fast grower!! Had a piece high up in my tank and it grew over 3x it's purchase size within a few months if that. But beware, those feeding tentacles LONG capable of stinging anything around. By the time I realized it had killed a nice chunk of a tri color acro colony I had...very nice coral but placement is key

+1 Those tentacles can be over 6" long.

Just moved my Hollywood stunner into my new tank yesterday only to find it was to big to fit in a 5 gallon bucket ! Mount it at a 45 degree angle in your tank and you can nearly watch it grow because they grow faster when shielding as opposed to encrusting to reach light ! Here is the progress of my Hollywood stunner in 1 1/2 years !

Yea I had mine high and it was starting to grow straight up so I just moved it down at a angle to get different growth.

It will get to the point you frag it every month ! Great coral to trade at fish stores ! Don't be afraid to frag it it only grows faster lol

You'll be there in no time this chalice is one of my hardiest corals nothing seems to bother it

Sleep eat reef repeat !!!

That big chalice look is what I'm after. Thanks for the shares. I found out the night I started this thread the mother colony I got this from died so I'm glad I have a frag from it and able to give that find a frag here soon so he can still have a piece of it.
