Hollywood stunner growth

I picked up a pretty small piece from LFS for cheap. In a matter of months it has doubled in size. It has started growing up the back tank glass in the back and you can see in the pic where the edges start to round it's growing down? I mounted it with a magnet to the back glass thinking it was a chalice so it should grow out and up? Am I missing something? Too much light maybe? Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic I didn't feel like digging out the dlsr

It looks crooked because it is. My fox face kept knocking it sideways. I got tired of turning it back flat every day so just left it.

Being a chalice and lps so maybe get more answers in that forum? I kept mine in the bottom but still got lots of light, grew completely flat and very fast. I've seen others in low light grow vertical.

should be lowered were the flow is not as great. Mine is on the sand and it grows up. Keep it away from other corals cause it has long tentacles that will sting anything close by. I think you have way to high.

+1 I thought i was okay with keeping it 4" away from other coral. Not so lucky. Didn't realize how long its feeders are until it was too late. Very fast grower. Needs very little light.

Now I feel dumb. I always assumed the Hollywood stunner was an SPS.

Mines up top and in high flow. Almost wish I'd never have added it. Grows like a weed! Lol. and everyone that knows about it doesn't even want a frag and my local stores don't even want anything to do with it. so I unfortunately have to dispose of a little bit every month or two. It's also decided to encrust my back wall as well as my standpipe overflow, so yeah, there's that headache. Lol

I agree with and am experiencing everything you have stated. LFS can not sell as much as I can produce. The big downside for me is that my wife loves this and wants me to keep it in the tank.
They are huge consumers of alk.

This is actually a great looking coral that needs to be in a huge display. 1000+ gallons or more. Preferably with a fish that likes to chew on coral.

There is no such thing as too much light for this. The more light the fast it grows. I had it in up to 450 par which is a lot for a chalice. I now have it in the corner of the tank it get very low light, about 75-100 par. This slows it down but it is still fast. Old photo here but you get the idea. 13" plus in all directions, fraged in half many times but just doubles back.

That explains why my lfs was giving away nice size pieces. Good information here. I think I might position mine to help keep my pipe organ in check.

Where you located? Unfortunately, I just hacked mine up a bit yesterday to make some space, but in a few weeks time I'll have some more, whether I want it or not. Lol. (Didn't hack up the whole colony, as much of a pita it is I just can't. Just some of the curls and lips)
