My bean animal overflow has been behaving a little peculiarly, so I decided to poke around my overflow box and this is what I found...
I have a few of them in my DT, but NOTHING like what is in my overflow!!! In the past, I've used AptasiaX to successfully control them in my DT. I am planning on getting a Copperband Butterfly to help with the DT (plus, I just love the fish and I've always wanted one).

I guess it's reasonable to assume that the aptasia in my overflow is helping with nutrient export. So my plan is:

1. Regularly clear out the aptasia near my bean animal intakes
2. Leave the rest in my overflow as nutrient export
3. Get a CBB for my DT

Comments, concerns, other ideas???
TIA,
John

YEs I am with Daveobrien disconnect it and bleach then bleach it some more make shew you clean it verry el before you hook it back up. if you mess with any of them in the overflow they will pump out spore's an they will flow into your display tank and then your display tank will look like your overflow COVERED IN APTASIA'S!!!!

Something has to be keeping them in control in your DT! What fish/inverts do you have?

I have a similar situation in my tank except with bubble algae and GHA. When I cleaned them off today you couldn't see the tops of the three drain pipes for the GHA and the waterline is covered in bubble algae. In the tank there is zero but I know why...I have a Gold Rim tang that loves GHA and bubble algae. I'm thinking about renting him out to supplement my retirement fund! :D

That's the stuff nightmares are made of!

Get some NaOh. Sodium hydroxide/Lye and squirt it down there in them and watch them turn to aiptasia soap. Lol
