HOLY CALCIUM Batman!

wow. confirmed with Instant Ocean too ... they said when that does happen its "pockets" that cause that. Also said to check the other bags and see if that is the case as many times it is just the one bag. Tested the other bag and got a reading of 670! So fed sending it back .. they were really cooperative as well!

That's good to hear. Thanks for the update.

Holy smokes it looks like it is a bad batch of salt .. at least this bag I was using (I bought the 200 gal box with 4 individual bags in there) .. I mixed up a small batch of salt in a big 2 gallon old protein bucket and I tested it twice with the salifert test kit -- I was getting readings of 560 calcium!!

Never knew this could happen ... a bad bag of salt that is
That is terrible. you put your trust and the lives of your fish and corals in their hands

This has happened with basically every brand out there. "Off" batches happen. Just like test kits could come with bad reagents.
I think i will test each bucket i get, there are enough problems with this hobby without adding more

That's certainly an option that some do. Make sure, if you don't use the entire bag/bucket, to mix it up thoroughly or you could experience stratification and find variations of the parameters tested from one mix to the next.
