Got this rock back in February. Had a few penny sized spots of coralline algae.
Two months in, it got moved to a different, very basic, minimal filtration setup with an eel and a couple inverts for company. Why, because I had to treat with copper and did not want to kill my eel and had minimal equipment.
Now, in July, the coralline has exploded, almost completely covering the rock and spreading to others.
I heard coralline is supposed to be quite difficult to grow, so what the heck am I doing right? By rights this tank should be rife with cyano and other nastiness.
30 gallon rubbermaid
20 gallons of water
25ish pounds of rock
10lbs of crushed coral
1x 580gph powerhead
1x200w heater
1x 165w Mars aqua light, 80% intensity.
That's it. No skimmer, no filtration, just daily 1 gallon water changes.
