I been out for a couple years, just when I thought this hobby couldn’t get much more expensive…. I’m currently Stocking a 180g boy oh boy have things gone up. Ridiculous. Still a work in progress but she’s up and running now. Purple tang and two anthias so far. Still need another light or 4… end goal is a mixed reef.

New to this. I started out freshwater and that has gotten so expensive that i thought what the heck why not try salt. I was getting bored too.

I do believe “pricey” is an understatement.

The 180 is looking good. Nice rockwork!

Quite a number of other Mid-western reefers here. Let me know if you have interest in connecting with other Hoosiers. We can get some intros going.

I've thought about trading my fish for chickens. Much more profitable now a days lol
They aren't as pretty

Oh i forgot to mention i got my 75 gal for $300 with sump heater stand but the wavemakers it came with taught me a good lesson china wavemakers stink as it shocked me a bunch until i figured out what was electrifying my water. Didn't help that it was both wavemakers throwing volts. Luckily it didn't bother my fish.
Anyways the ROCK was so expensive i about croaked at tge counter. $10 a lb. I then got some cheaper for $7 a lb. And went even cheaper at amazon for dried rock to supplement the live rock. It stinks and my husband tho is i have lost my mind. So your tank looks like a million bucks to me It is really gorgeous

thank you, I live in Logansport bout an hour north of Indy.
This was a topic a couple of months ago - there are ways to save but the impact is definitely there

Shoulda kept the 90 you sold me and I wouldn’t be doing this all over again…

I was out of the hobby for 10 years before jumping back in a few months ago. So sticker shock for me is EVERYTHING! Fish that I got for $25-50 are now $60-$200+.

Coral frags are only about double, but a lot of the "name" coral frags are ridiculously expensive.

Lots of improvements in dry goods like power heads, pumps and protein skimmers. Some are only marginally more expensive than before and others are insanely priced. The fact that black Friday sale prices were 25% off on some high end power heads and lights just shows a bit of where the industry is.
Then there's the influx of cheap Chinese products, some of which are very good.
