This fish is incredible! Have never seen one before. What is he like?
He is an exceptional fish, not aggressive but not timid. He does not chase other wrasse much at all but the Bluethroat and the Laboutei wrasse seem to leave him alone.
And he is an exceptional looker. I will try my best to get a POTM worthy picture of him over the next few weeks.

Congrats to all who have finally found their grail fish! Also, I envy those who are still dreaming and can finally fill that void someday! Mine always has been, and likely always will be... The interruptus angel. I've never seen one make it too long in captivity unless kept in a cold water system... Something I'm just not willing to do... Plus, the price and questionable ethics regarding the capture of the fish just make it almost a non-starter for me... But, they sure are spectacular:

Mine is a very common and easy to get a hold of fish. I love sail fin tangs and think they are about as pretty as anything else out there. However I currently own a 90 gallon and wont do that, down the road I will have a bigger tank and a sail fin.

I suppose mine, for now, is Cirrhilabrus blatteus. But short of policy shifts (political) or embargo lifts, it's doubtful I will ever have one.

I also love Genicanthus personatus, but unless the price reduces by an order of magnitude, it's beyond my comfort zone.

I have 3 levels of dream fish. 1) doable but not just yet... A. femininus.

2) readily available but impossible to keep (obligate corallivore). C. ornatissiumus
Ornate butterfly (1 of 1).jpg

3) very difficult to get, and more than a small compact car. G. personatus

I'm a predator guy, I have 2 holy grail predators; a weedy scorpionfish(rhinopias frontosa) and a blackfoot lion(parapterois heterura). I have a few other harder to find and harder to care for species of scorps, lions, and a black changing to blue ribbon eel.

That scorpionfish is incredible!

For me my Holy Grail fish was a MAGMA WRASSE. (and still is)

I've never seen one at LFS and never even knew it existed till the day it came in about a year ago. I bought it right away.

This is a photo I got while it was in QT.

He was a Young Small Juvenille, and I did transfer him after QT to DT, and he did great for a couple of months.......till one day....
I was gluing down some new frags with Cyano Gel Glue, and a drop float away.
He went for the glue as if food, and choked on it.

I haven't seen another Magma since, and too bad I never got to see him grow to maturity.
I'll keep looking till I get another.

Till I find another Magma Wrasse, I am happy to have a Helfrichi Fire Fish, I also haven't seen around here except the day I was lucky to buy him.

He comes out every day at exact same time for about 2-3 hours, and vanishes. Those few moments are special watch time.

I'm loving all the posts everyone!! :D @revhtree surely you've got some plans for that big ole' tank of yours!

In terms of some of my absolute desires here's my short-list!
- Cirrhilabrus shutmani
- Cirrhilabrus isoceles
- Cirrhilabrus sanguineus
- Cirrhilabrus claire
- Paracheilinus attenuatus
- Paracheilinus nursalim
- Paracheilinus hemitaeniatus
- Liopropoma carmabi
- Lipogramma klayi
- Gramma dejongi

Otherwise I've been extremely lucky in being able to get a lot of my all time dream fish of recent times!

Other than the peppermint angelfish, my favorites are small fish that I've been trying to find for a long time now, but they rarely if ever become available in the hobby: the Cook Islands variant helfrichi firefish, magnificent fan shrimp goby, and gulf signal blenny.

My absolute favorites neither of which I have nor will have in the foreseeable future because of tank size is the powder brown tang and an emperor angel both of which I had in my FO tank back in the 90s (300 gallon).
Potter’s angel would run a close 3rd
2 of the 3 impossible with corals

I owned a magnificent shrimp goby for a while, it was the coolest little fish, and, surprisingly, always out in the open.
