Green mouth gold tentacles and white tips was the original holy grail. But some many of them similar are out there now. Blue tips green tips. I can’t keep up. I actually hate the names. I pick a color by seeing if it pops. If I can see the coral 10 feet from the tank I want it. lol if I need a dictionary to know the name doesn’t impress me. Your 24k looks awesome. Love to see it in person :)

I have a question for both of you. Looking at the example of the WWC Holy Grail, a simple observation I made is that its a mostly actinic shot, if not all actinic. Full actinics will make whites turn blue and light green turn into piercing bright green. My question is, am I really looking at blue tips and green bases if that thing was in regular 14k lighting?

You wold see the green base but no blue tips, the whiter light washes out color. Tbh you put any coral in whiter light they all look drab.

I love them but I sold most of them , I was hoarding like crazy

Well no not white light no. But like Theo said Home Depot t5 whites will turn any coral ugly. But I run ab on my radion and the corals look nice msybe not as nice as the picture but dang close

Remember Wwc edits there picture to make the coral look as close to Whst it looks like in there tank. You take a picture of a coral it simple doesn’t look the same as it does in your tank. So you need to adjust it to try to match.

Besides we all buy coral for the pop under blue light, it's what attracts us

With the high end corals I try to by them in person or at the least from a guy online here so I know they didn’t edit the picture like crazy.

Its so interesting the almost two different sects of reefing that is running these days and the very much opposite opinions that go with each. To me, 14k is the true color and actinics dress it up to what it really is not. Its like what people look like when I see them outside in a park versus seeing the same people in a club. When I look at my tank, its under 14k. While I appreciate the dawn/dusk times of the day in my tank when actinic are on, I don't want to see that all day.

Then there's this whole other group of reefers that wants to see their corals under actinic all day and like your opinion, say white light washes out corals.

No opinion is wrong, its just amazing to see such a divide in reefing these days. I feel like the more blue/actinic movement spawned the current Tenuis craze, as none of them really are jawdropping without actinics and reefbrites on them. I know, I own a lot of them.

Either way, I digress. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge of gold torches. It was very informative. I'll keep my eyes out for a local one so I can see with my own eyes before purchasing.
