I purchase a home depot check valve and want to make sure it is safe for the system. I will use it on the return pump....Thanks
 
Do you have a link to the valve you got? It's most likely ok, as most pvc and plastic plumbing parts are

I'd highly recommend you design your plumbing without check valves. They are doomed to fail.
 
That too.

One of those things always reccomended but , really not sure why.

Also the HD version is designed for a higher flow , so the pump has to work really hard to keep it open.
 
For the record, I'm here at HD looking at this very check valve, and it has a soft metal spring, washer, and screw internals that do not look to be resitant to electrolytic corrosion from salt water. They also say for non-potable use. FWIW
