I have had the same one since june. It only worked for like a month. I would personally recommend either the wye check valve or a clear swing valve that you can see into. If i had done that i'd know what the problem is. I'm swapping it out for a clear swing true union over winter break.
Yup, you should be good to go. But I will agree with the comments, these and other check valves are very prone to failure.
I'd highly recommend you design your plumbing without check valves. They are doomed to fail.
