Happy Wednesday everyone. So i came across an old thread in regards to making fresh seafood, fish food for your tank. I would like to start a current discussion on this and see what everyone else is doing.

Is this a good idea? What about hidden pathogens or other issues (if any) with this process.

What fresh seafood do you blend together to make your slew?

Thanks in advance for everyone's input.

It’s a great idea and theoretically it could be even safer because you’d know exactly what you’d be putting in the tank.
Also it would be a lot cheaper than buying this exact thing from someone else.

Here’s a vid that’ll wander everything and more

If I remember right, any parasites (like Anisakis worms) tend to be killed after being frozen for a while (~3 days or so?). Bacteria on the other hand are harder to zap, and Vibrio can be cultured from frozen foods...but as long as the fish are healthy, that shouldn't be too big of a problem.

I like using squid/cuttlefish (removing the beaks, pens and ink sacs), shrimp (break off the rostrum, take half the shells off), and some form of bivalve (remove from the shell before freezing). Squid's never more than 25% of the mix by weight, and shrimp is a major component (~50% or so).
