home made plugs:
well was playing with a 2 part epoxy, want to cover my pond foam i used in my new setup with rock, crush coral and sand. also thought about making some plugs with it as well.
the kits i used. pencil for mixing(was handy), locktite 2 part epoxy(Note: z-poxy cheaper), sand , crush coral, and i tried with couple soda cans as a mold.
the 2 part epoxy i used
i used the bottom of a soda can. figured i would get a rounded look on the top part. didn't happen that way but yet i was only experimenting with the 2 part epoxy.
mixing the 2 parts together.
adding some sand and mixed the 2 part poxy and sand.
sense i was just messing around and wasn't sure if i was going to get the plug out of the can so i decided to cover the top of the exposed epoxy with crush coral.
was not even sure if a can is a good choice for a mold. could always try using other things as molds later. well it says 60 min's and its ready.

LIES,
1 hours no good, 2 hours no good, 3 hours and the top seemed ok still a little soft. i used a spoon and scooped it out in one piece. it was a still sticky on the bottom and somewhat flexible. worked the rounded bottom out some didnt take much. i have had it out for a while ,another hour or so. its harder but yet flexible some. will leave it over night see how it is.
here's a pic of the top and bottom of the plug, well disc. its about the size, thickness and maybe double the weight of a half dollar coin. after doing it i think it would have been better with maybe less epoxy and more sand.
oh and a sample with some pond foam i covered it with the 2 part epoxy. one side with sand and the other side with crushed coral. the sample is for my in walltank project.
