My home wreckers seems to be starting to Rtn, it is encrusted about 1/2” to 1” around the original frag. Anything I can do to try to save it?

hi can you get a closer pic? looks like can cut off branch, dip? but save base.

yes, i was looking at base upper right frag, is this only piece in reef showing distress ?

I wouldn't dip an already stressed peeling acro, esp not in bayer/ anti pest dips, a light lugols if anything, but wouldn't even recommend that tbh

I would cut off the dead branchlet, making the cut at least 0.5 cm into healthy non peeling tissue.
sometimes gluing over the cut can be a wise idea too.

Anything around it that could be causing issues? a nearby vermetid snail repeatably casting its mucus net can irritate acropora and potentially cause peeling/ recession.

Obviously, water params and stability of them should be evaluated as well.
.Sorry for your troubles, hope its able to be saved.

I cute the the dead branch as close the the base I could get, also added glue around the edge which I would be the first to admit I am terrible at glueing under water. Thanks for the help, I will update with progress.

The cause of RTN will be impossible to determine. Knowing more about your system will help but I agree to cut off the dead part. Hopefully it pulls through. But it happens.

phos is at .07, it was at 1.1 3-5 weeks ago and everything in the tanks started taking a turn for the worst so I started running some gfo very slowly decreasing it.
Nitrates have been progressively going lower out of nowhere, usually run between 3-5 ppm, now its at 1-2 ppm

Can you expand on your statement, "phos is at .07, it was at 1.1 3-5 weeks ago and everything in the tanks started taking a turn for the worst"? I've had phosphate that high with SPS frags and none of them died. They also didn't grow.

Sticks were fine, alot of my other coral were hating the high phos. gonis were losing their polyps and some of the torches didnt look as big. lowered the phos and the gonis are doing great now. for the most part my sticks never showed any distress during any of this.

All of my sticks are encrusting now and none of them are growing by the way. that homewrecker is the same size as i bought it 4 months ago but has encrusted on the rock about an inch all around.

From my experience years ago I killed corals by using gfo. I started using lanthanum and still do anytime my phos gets too high for my liking. Reading sbb corals thread and he runs upwards of .2-.3 without any problems. then again everyones tank is different.

And now you freaked me out about using gfo lol should I stop using it or cut down the flow? I see the confusion before, I meant .11 down to .07.
Is nopox a better option for this. I have a lot of zoas and don’t want to bottom out my nitrates.

I know many people use gfo without any issue at all but others have had problems, myself included. I found lanthanum and have used it for years. One $25 bottle will last for years. I believe its a slower more controlled reduction of phos.
I would raise your nitrate also. When mine gets as low as yours 1-2ppm my corals start to suffer. I loose p/e and my corals loose their colors. I am dosing every so often with stump killer to raise my nitrates. Mine are currently at around 12-15 ppm on my kit. I would be fine with as high as 20ppm.

If your happy with the nex brand dont know if I would mess with something different. I think it is specticide that I got at lowes. As in lanthanum I buy seaclear brand that is used for swimming pools. I think I last bought it on amazon.
