I bit the bullet and purchased a Honda e1000 backup generator for my 150 gal reef tank.I have battery backup for some of my equipment but with hurricane season approaching and stories of 4 hr tank crashes I decided to go all out.considering how much money is invested in my tank (sps colonies alone)I figured the cost of the generator was minimal and gives me real peace of mind. If my power goes off I'll unplug my two main cords from the wall and plug them into the Honda and run EVERYTHING for what I believe will be 8 hrs on each tank of gas.
We recently had mark (melevsreef)at our local club meeting on the topic of tank leaks which caused him over a year of temporary setups.he commented that when there is a problem we are responsible for" saving our reef" because that is what we are doing on a daily basis.I'm not going to let a power outage put mine at risk
