To keep things short and sweet I took out my Eibli Angel as it was starting to eat my corals. Store had a baby yellow for a good price. Got it on impulse as I already have a purple that's much larger but also kinda docile towards other fish.

Yellow is in an acclimation box and the purple is circling trying to attack him

What are the chances this could work out and not end with the death of this baby?

The display is 130ish

Well, in my experience, there is very little chance it will end well lol. I have never had a purple that wasn't a problem with any added fish.....and another tang of the same species just makes it worse. You do have a larger display and an acclimation box so you are off to a good start.

Given that "The purple is circling" I'd say roughly 4:1 against the Yellow. If you can catch the purple and put him in the box and release the yellow into the tank for a week then the chances improve up to maybe 2:1. A month in the box, the purple is going to rush out of the box completely furious about being locked up and knock the yellow out of the tank in the first round. I agree with @Waters

I already ordered a large box that's longer to place in the middle of the tank to give it more swimming space.

I do plan on catching the purple and having him chill in the box or in my sump for a week and bring it back. The yellow escaped since the box slipped down and I didnt notice. The purple was trying to bite it but the Yellow was super easy to catch.

I was kinda hoping that my fox face would scare off the purple as the purple gets beaten up my the fox face, but seems that the fox has no interest in doing this

I had a Purple Tang and Yellow Tang together for many years but they were both added at exactly the same time. After the Purple died I added a Gem and Achilles Tang again at the same time, the Gem and Yellow proceeded to beat the Achilles to death.

Recently I added a White-tailed Kole Tang it was introduced without incident unfazed by the other Reef inhabitants....whew. This morning I added my 7" Regal Tang and again went without incident.

Zebrasomas especially Purple Tang's can be quite aggressive especially if the fish you're trying to introduce is much smaller and of same species.

Good luck if you choose to add the Yellow.

If you can, readjust the scape and make small areas only he can get into.

Rearranging rockwork seems to be one thing that has worked for a lot of people when introducing new tangs.

Also add a mirror for the purple to beat his reflection up.

If you can catch the purple ypu can add him to a box but that may be hard to do hah

I caught the purple, he got greedy and went inside the box. I put the purple in the sump and released the yellow. In a couple days I'll add the purple to the box and see how he reacts to the yellow swimming by. If I see that he's still aggressive I'll just remove the yellow instead as I already have an emotional connection with the purple

It will work much better if you add a third species of Zebrasoma that is the same body shape as these two.
If you get a third then aggression is spread out, and instead of 1 v 1 it becomes 2 v 1 or 3 v 3. I really recommend if you want a tang, go for a Ctenochaetus species as these will go under the radar and don’t care about being the king/queen of the tank as much as other genera do. Zebrasoma are all nightmares so you’ll wind up with 2 (or 3) terrors that most likely won’t allow any new fish into the tank.

Honestly at this point I highly doubt I'll be adding anything else after this. I'm pretty full on fish as it is.

It's funny because until this point my purple tan was bullied by the foxface and the midas blenny. He was always super chill with all the fish including new one's but dam did he change yesterday with the introduction of the yellow. The desjardini I have also keeps him in check, hoping that a couple days in the sump might relax him a bit but if not I'll just remove the yellow instead

I just looked a bit more at your pics, didn't realize how small the yellow is! That's gonna be a hard one even with sumping the purple. My experience is that the purple doesn't forget or forgive.

But when it works....
