Hello,

A while back I purchased superbuffer-dkh, and I have been learning about needing to raise my ph to 8.1-8.3 in my reef tank. Can someone please help me understand how this product works? If I have a ph of 7.8 on a 22 gallon reef tank and adding the amount suggested on the directions how long is it going to take me to bring the ph up to 8.1-3. It says add one teaspoon per day for 20-30 gallons until ph and alkalinity are at desireable parameters. Are we talking it might take days, weeks, months?

I am planning to later dose kalkwasser to bring my ph up but for now this is what I have.

Hi Jeremy

I’m just wondering why you feel you need to raise your pH ?

I looked into a similar situation a while ago as my system runs around 7.8-8 and I wanted it at 8.2 because that’s what I read it should be

After hours of reading I decided all my live stock were healthy and didn’t care about the actual number, and were only talking a small % anyway

The article below is something I read
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/

Unless you have a very valid reason and are confident with additives, and how they will work and how much to add, I would leave it as it is, as you could cause some serious issues if it goes wrong.

Also something as simple as opening a few windows with raise the pH a little.

But to answer your question if you do add it, it looks like days if not hours.

If you are using a quality salt mix, let it be and don’t mess with that stuff. What are you using to measure pH? What is the pH of your newly mixed salt water?

That product also raises your alk so you won't be able to just use it to raise your pH without raising your alk. I have had a few friends new to the hobby use it and crash their tanks thinking it's what they needed.
If you want to raise pH the only way is to use a skimmer connected to an outside air source or use co2 trapping media in a prefilter hooked up to the air intake.
