today I am having a problem with my red, blue, and purple hornets. yesterday all was normal but today they are closed an look to be melting. on the red and purple you can see no polyps and the blues are closed up tight. I did a dip on them today with seachem reef dip. I have not done anything to the tank prior. today I did a 15g water change on my 90g. I also tested my water today.

results
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 0-5
calcium - 380
dkh - 8
posphates - .25
salinity - .025 refractometer

any suggestions on what to do?
I will post photos shortly.

red hornet

purple hornet

blue hornet

all other corals - lps - z/p - softies are
all fish are swimming and eating
anemones are open and bubbled

It looks like your purple hornet has an infestation of blue clove polyps.. The other ones looked fine. Have you dipped them to try and removed pests?

Coral RX dip. We what happens
What was PH
Dito what's Mg. Ca is a little low but the ratio is not bad for Ca to alk.

Some times they just melt away. Looking great for the first few weeks than close up. Some are sensitive. I have some that are open sometimes and not others.
Vitamin C dosing helps. Search for a thread from pufferpunk. Don't just use any kind of vitamin c.

I do not have a mag test kit. I will be getting one tomorrow.

sorry ph was 8.4

I did dip today in seachem reef dip

all of the hornets have been in the tank for at least a year. the cloves have always been with the purples with no problems. the cloves do not seem to grow or go away.

fish are: 2 perculas - 6 line - 2 chromis - Christmas wrasse - midas blenny - 2 bar rabbit - two spot bristle tooth tang

I do a 15g weekly with reef crystals but I missed last weekend and did today and will do another 15g tomorrow or sunday to get back on schedule.

the rabbit has been in there for a few months and has not bothered and that I have ever seen. that does not mean that he cant change over night. I am just confused as to why it is just the hornet colonies.

rabbits can go to the dark side and start picking .. have even seen some tangs eat LPS .. no suppose to but do ..

Brian

Thinking it's the rabbit fish too

Maybe he likes the little circles on the hornets? Who knows why he picked them

Rabbit Fish!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a rabbit fish take out 50+ red hornets. He didn't eat them just ripped them off the rock for fun . make a cage out of egg create cover them see if they get better.

Well the rabbit his is currently living in my sump. I almost as soon as the fish was removed a few of the blue hornets open. Now to hope that the red and purples pull through.

Sorry he was exiled. But it was for the better. I'm fairly confident they'll return. It may take awhile. Just be patient.
