So I have found ich on my kole tang. I’ve learned my lesson with not doing QT and learning it the hard way. Now I have to setup for copper treat kole tang, flame angel, 2 clowns, foxface, and damsel. My question is a 20 gall long to small for the entire 76 days or should I bring out the old 55 gal? Also I don’t have time to cycle it and don’t have a sponge in DT so is the store bought bacteria good enough?

I would use the 55g for those fish. You can set up the 20g for now and transition them later. Bottled bacteria from the store is my preference for setting up a QT/HT.

Only thing that is preventing me using the 55 gall is the 50% water changes 2x a week. Can get pricey with salt. Was thinking I could dose them in 20 gall until ich is gone and then place them in 55 gall until the dt is done starving the rest ich but also scared to lose a fish or two due to moving tanks to much

You can treat in copper for 10 to 14 days in the 20g and then transfer them to the 55g. That will give the 55g some time to establish the biofilter.

I would do this^ treatment in the sterile QT with bottled bacteria an water-changes as needed to manage ammonia.

Meanwhile seed the 55g also, and and let it stabilize to observe the fish post treatment.

If you have a second clean tank for observation, you can transfer out of the copper tank after 14 days to limit exposure to the fish (copper is a toxin, after all, but a necessary evil).

Thank you everyone for the quick reply hopefully I don’t lose a fish during treatment

What’s the best copper treatment? I’m leaning towards cupramine but I’ve heard that it’s not good for the flame angel. Is that true?
