Over the years, I've had BTA's, PLTA', and Haddon's carpets. The only time I had a clown go directly to the nem, was a Maroon Clown that hosted a RBTA. But, the RBTA wasn't fully established in the tank and the clown, in an attempt to host, was too rough, keeping the nem from settling. In this case I had to remove the clown, let the nem find a spot it was happy with, and then reinstall the clown. So, I think you would be better served to place the nem in the tank first, and allow it to settle in before you add a clown. My next attempt was with a PLTA and some tank raised clowns. In this case the nem quickly established itself, but the clowns would not host. After some time, I decided to get a wild caught clown to see if it would host the nem. The wild caught clown went right to the nem, and within a couple days, the tank raised clowns were hosting the nem, had evicted the smaller wild caught clown. A few years later, I replaced the PLTA with a Haddon's, and had the same problem with the existing clowns, so I went through the same process of adding a wild caught, which hosted, and again within a couple days lured the others into the nem.
